City of Brooklyn Park

Brooklyn Park is Minnesota's sixth largest city, and is 85-percent developed. Its comprehensive plan identifies a significant amount of land along the Bottineau Boulevard corridor for "reinvestment opportunities." Most of the available land for reinvestment is designated for industrial uses. Brookly Park will host both of the two planned park-and-ride lots serving the Bottineau Line bus rapid transit service.

Brooklyn Park also has several parks near Bottineau Boulevard, including Bass Creek Park, Shingle Creek Park, and Greenhaven Park. Hennepin Technical College and North Hennepin Community College are also located in the corridor.

Steve Lampi

Mayor

"This is an exciting time to be living in Brooklyn Park, as the city grows and evolves before our eyes. Over the next decade, we anticipate a population growth from 70,000 to 90,000 people.

"Brooklyn Park is distinguished in the region because of its history of staged development. We are really only developing the final third of our city right now, even as we begin to contemplate redevelopment of older sections. Projects such as the recently completed 610 Corridor and the Village North development along Brooklyn Boulevard illustrate our commitment to smart, long-range planning that will allow us to sustain the remarkable quality of life that our citizens enjoy.

"Managing an ever-increasing traffic volume and meeting the public's demands for public transit will be one of Brooklyn Park's key challenges in the coming years. The new Bus Rapid Transit service is exactly the kind of flexible mass transit that our community needs.

"In this time of economic belt-tightening, the Bottineau Boulevard Partnership has proven a great model for accomplishing a large scale project in a cost-effective manner. The partnership works because it has brought citizens, the business community, and the public sector together from the very beginning, giving everyone a chance to develop a substantial investment in the project's outcome."

Steve Lampi is as the 11th mayor of Brooklyn Park. A lifelong resident of the northern suburbs, Lampi has lived in Brooklyn Park for seven years with his wife and three children.

Lampi is president and COO of Bridgeman's Restaurants, Inc., and a longtime participant in a host of citizens' committees and task forces. He has been a member of the Bottineau Boulevard Partnership's Citizens Advisory Committee since its formation and has served as its chair. He was vice chair of Brooklyn Park's Budget Task Force, a member and chair of the city's Citizen Long Range Improvement Committee, and a member of its Master Planning Task Force and Village Task Force. Lampi is also active in the Brooklyn Park's youth sports programs.
