City of Minneapolis

Minneapolis is now well on its way to becoming a true multi-modal transit city, a distinction it lost 50 years ago when its extensive streetcar service was scrapped. The Hiawatha light rail line began operation in 2004, two more LRT corridors are being planned, and a heavy-rail commuter line is also in development. The Bottineau Line will be the first to launch of three planned BRT routes serving Minneapolis, and the only one serving the north side.

Barbara Johnson

City Council Member

“In my north-side district, there are a lot of working-class people who rely on public transportation. I want to see more accessible and available options that are also more attractive, making public transportation more pleasant to users.

“The comprehensive approach to capital investment and transportation improvements made possible through participation in the Bottineau Boulevard Partnership is extremely attractive. Every dollar is allocated in a consistent and cooperative way.”

Barbara Johnson has represented Minneapolis' Fourth Ward since 1997. A lifetime resident of the city of Minneapolis and a registered nurse for more than 30 years, Johnson began her career in public service when the Met Council appointed her to the Metropolitan Parks and Open Space Committee in 1983.

Johnson has a special interest in the revitalization of transportation corridors. In addition to the Bottineau Boulevard corridor, she has worked successfully on the Humboldt Greenway project and is involved in planning for the Lowry Avenue corridor.
