Scherer Lumber Brothers Company
Scherer Brothers is a seventy-five year-old family-owned lumber company. Its corporate headquarters is at the corner of County Road 81 and Highway 169. They also own property on the Mississippi River just south of Broadway. Scherer Brothers is a major lumber supplier to the building industry, with related companies actively involved in housing development throughout the metro region.

"Our employees live in this area, and Bottineau Boulevard serves our customer base in northwestern Hennepin County. When we look up and down the corridor, we see an aging housing stock in need of remodeling and new development, which of course means opportunities for the construction industry.
"We have a much deeper interest than simply helping to build houses--we want to help build and maintain healthy communities. That is why the Bottineau Boulevard Partnership is so exciting to us. We see the cities working together with the whole corridor in perspective. All of the partners, both from the public and private sectors, are invested and committed to the corridor.
"We will mobilize more resources to our part of the region, resources that we sorely need. I drive Bottineau Boulevard all the time from our lumberyard in Minneapolis to our headquarters in Brooklyn Park. The road serves many functions, but has become somewhat outdated and obscure from public attention. Our Partnership can really help to shape a new vision for this corridor.
"One reason that I agreed to serve as Chair of the Partnership’s Developer Advisory Panel is that I believe that we can change the development process to be more productive and efficient. If we can start the municipal--developer dialogue early, we can identify projects that make business sense and utilize resources efficiently. We can also move the marketplace to bring more capital to this corridor that supports development of livable communities."
Peter Scherer has lived and worked his entire life in the Bottineau Boulevard corridor. Since 1995, he has been President and CEO of a family owned building material supplier, land developer, and financial services company. Founded by Clarence and Munn Scherer in 1930, the company has grown to annual sales of $140 million.
The Company's corporate headquarters are one block away from Bottineau Boulevard in Brooklyn Park. Peter is an active community leader, serving as Chair of the Twinwest Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee, past Chair of the St. Bartholomew School Board, and past board member for Catholic Youth Camps.
EDUCATION: BBA Finance, University of Notre Dame.
FAMILY: Peter and his wife Geri have three children, Laura, Sam and Ben, with whom he enjoys volleyball, skiing, and of course, Notre Dame Fighting Irish football.
